Management of Publications Distribution Facility

Procurement Agency: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

    Project Summary:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is composed of a number of individual centers, institutes and program offices (CIOs). Each CIO generates a variety of medical literature, journals, studies, etc. for dissemination to the public and world-wide medical community.

ISPA manages an inventory of approximately 4,000 various medical studies and information publications, journals, booklets, and pamphlets. Services include the receipt, storage and world-wide distribution of medical publications in response to requests from various public health officials throughout the world. Publications range in size from a single page to several hundred pages and consist of an inventory volume ranging from 100 to 1 million copies. Publications are accounted for by an on-line automated inventory system which can be accessed by any CIO for inquiries concerning stock levels and/or the issuance of an order. The average number of publications distributed (mailed) monthly is 1.1 million. The average number of mass mailings per month is 35, each requiring approximately 10,000 publications to be labeled, prepared for mailing, and delivered to the Post Office.

As part of this effort, we also operate the CDC Reprographics Facility for performing in-house printing jobs. The Reprographics Facility contains a variety of printing and peripheral equipment giving the facility the capability to perform a variety of printing and related tasks. This facility is also on-line with the CIOs and can receive and print data electronically or by hard copy.
